Recommended bars in Chongqing

CHONGQING

Newcastle Arms

Run primarily to market the Scottish & Newcastle beer that is brewed in Chongqing under licence by the Chongqing Beer Group, this is a popular spot with expats and locals alike. Our Scottish reviewer enjoyed the McEwan’s brew he’s been drinking for several decades ! They have live music too (which can be a bit loud) as well as a pool table and darts for the gaming types. Spot the local male staff trend of wearing trousers and kilts…

Address : Bayi Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, China

Soho

This appears to be the main bar in the city’s “bar street”, Soho was, on the Friday night in October when we visited, absolutely packed – and it’s a very big venue! There is a long winding bar as well as a huge dance floor – definitely the place to go and see and be seen.

Address : 渝中区得意世界A1 – 6

Yu Zhong District, De Yi Shi Jie A1 – 6 (De Yi Shi Jie is a commercial and entertainment center 200 meters down the street of JW Marriot)

True Love Club

True Love has various locations in town but nicest is the one under Soho. It has three different settings: a fancy tavern with (mostly) Chinese live music, bouncing dance floor and matchmaking games arranged by friendly staff, a noisy techno room with go-go dancing waitress and a more intimate lounge bar featuring variety of live music performers such as Jazzy Chinese lady, electrical violin concertist, Cuban salsa drummer or Filipino and Mauritian pop singers.

Address : Yu Zhong District, De Yi Shi Jie, -1 level.

Cotton Club

Another favorite expats and foreign students hangout is Cotton Club, a disco-bar with great music and excellent drink list.

Address : Cotton club is strategically located between De Yi Shi Jie and JW Marriot

Dee Dee’s Pub

If you stay in Holiday Inn Yangtze, pay a visit to Dee Dee, she is the very friendly and knowledgeable owner of local pub that serves cheap cold beer and delicious Western food. There is a dart tournament every Thursday and major sport events are broadcasted on giant screen.

Address : 86 Nan Ping Xinjie, Nan An District (next to Holiday Inn Apartment), Tel : 023 66135941
