Customs clearance from China

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience in posting expensive items from China and if so, what kind of customs clearance you had to go through on an item exceeding 5000CNY.

Over the next week, I'll be posting a 2000 USD video camera to the USA from China and FEDEX are telling me I have to arrange the customs myself as the value is too high.

According to their website for a personal item, this involves, an airwill bill, passport photocopy, and commerical invoice prep, which I can prepare. However, now they are claiming I'd have to go to Beijing airport to post. I could declare it as a commercial sample, but then I'm likely to lose the value protection on the item. Any thoughts or experiences in doing this?

Cheers,

Stephen
