Just had dinner there last night, just across from the Shangri-La. Nicely decorated, and a short cropped blond busty Aussie chick called Jennifer is running the joint. Free pre-dinner cocktails on the house, and then the main event. Pretty good menu, and a selection of 'snow dragon' beef. That is a Japanese-Chinese JV up the road from Dalian, and they make it like the Wagu beef from Japan, the cattle are pampered, massaged, listen to Mozart, fed beer and wild oats, and have the life of fucking riley. When they get turned into steaks it is awesome, and La Riveria has their tenderloin, ribeye, sirloins...Jennifer said it would be the best steak in China - quite a claim - and it was.
Two of us had the tenderloin, one had monkfish and the other prawn / scallop grilled kebabs. Everyone was happy.
I think the wine list needs improving - the Pinot Noir we had was a bit drab - but otherwise it was a pretty aweseome meal. RMB2,000 for four for dinner with wine makes it expensive for Dalian, but about half the price of what you'd pay for a similar meal in Beijing or Shanghai.
Dalian is getting a lot more Westerners there now - Intel are bringing over 1,000 employees there - and it is a great weekend destination. Some of the cleanest air in China and great beaches. Get down here and when you do - treat yourself to La Riveria. Recommended.
