Can Chinese digest milk, alcohol?

For years I have heard about how most Asians are lactose intolerant, but I have a hard time believing it. People eat ice cream like it's going out of style, and while someone implied in another thread that the stuff here isn't actually from milk, I suspect that was said tongue in cheek.

And then there's the question of alcohol. I know some Chinese get red faces from the stuff, but so do lots of Irish, so what's the deal? And is this an issue of just that it makes people flushed, or are they didn't problems as well?

These are the things I need to know.

Ice Cream is Ice Cream

I assume whoever said ice cream didn't use milk in China was saying it fairly tongue-in-cheek. I've never heard anything like that. It's true that the popular belief that Asians are all lactose intolerant is not true, but I think there is a higher tendency. Don't know any stats though.

That's a good question...

That's a good question... but i think the answer is no... the "tradition" is a lil' bit lost... i think that the youths love milky ice cream and cocktails with milk and a lot of alcohol... anyway... it'd be a good question 20 years ago :) narconon vista bay
