I've heard a lot about the younger generation of Chinese filmmakers, the post-Zhang Yimou, John Woo crowd. They're supposed to be pretty good but I don't really know what's out there. Who directed my post-modern life? The one with an aging Chow Young Fat?
People have also told me that directors, particularly Zhang Yi Mou, get criticized for pandering to the foreign audience and not making things that are pertinent to young Chinese. Is there any truth to this, and if so are there others who are addressing the issues that young Chinese people care about?

Liu Hao
Liu Hao's Two Great Sheep got a lot of press when it came out a few years ago and is quite good. I think he's only done one other movie, so I definitely think he qualifies as the new generation.
