Dance lessons in Beijing

I have some weddings coming up and would love to take ballroom dancing lessons. Are there any around? Let's just say I'm a beginner.

Adventurous?

There is an option that I've done, but this may not be what you had in mind:
You know those areas where people are dancing outside? Lots and lots of Chinese people? Sometimes they are classes. It's pretty fun, you can dance with lots of people--or by yourself as many choose to--and basically you pay 50 kuai once and you can keep going until you can dance. As in it's a lifetime membership type deal.

But if you want more structured stuff you'll have to look elsewhere.

Good idea, but....

You've really done that!? I think you might be my hero. No seriously.

I always see them dancing and they're so into it I want to join in. But you must have some serious b--ls to jump into a group like that.

Are you a good dancer? Maybe you could teach us
:-)

Balls etc

Are there big dance events like charity balls and what not? I'd be pretty interested in something like that. I remember a few weeks ago there was something for Saint Patrick's Day in Beijing. Is this typical?

Amcham

I think Amcham had one recently. A lot of the country business groups like that have them periodically. The Canadian one I think had one recently too. I'd just check around at some of those sites.

They aren't cheap though--maybe 1000RMB or so.

Ballroom Dancing in Beijing

This may be a little late for your weddings. My name is Ken Wiland. I founded "Beijing Ballroom" to meet needs like yours. "Beijing Ballroom" sponsors a FREE American-style ballroom dance party every Saturday at the SinoChu Wine Bar and Restaurant, and I myself teach private lessons in all the ballroom and latin dances and in Argentine Tango. I have taught at embassies, international schools, to Chambers of Commerce groups, and at the largest private dancing academy in Beijing. (References available.)

Contact me at: beijingballroom@yahoo.com ; or check out my website at: www.beijingballroom.com ; or call me at 131 2102 5208. I often prepare couples for their wedding dances here in Beijing. I studied dance for over 20 years in NYC with some of the world's top dancers. I specialize in teaching adults the basics of social dance.

If I can't help you myself, I will try to direct you to someone who can.

Looking for oportunities to teach dance in Beijing

hello out there my name is Michael Wogu and I will be moving to Beijing in Oct-Nov of this year to study Mandarin. I would like to get a partime gig teaching the passion that I love so much- dance. Through the various places I've traveled to/lived in for short periods of time(Brazil,Costa Rica,Nigeria,Mexico,Panama), as well as my current home and birthplace(Southern California) I've been blessed to acquire a richness and uniqueness in dance variety. I've been trained formally in Latin social dance (salsa, cha cha, etc.) I feel that I also add a creative spice and spark through having held on to my first loves which are Break dance and African freestyle. I have been part of some of the best known and unknown dance scenes, from competing in the world renown Mayan amature salsa competition which takes part in Los Angeles CA to the packed out samba circles of local dance halls in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil. Dances that I currently teach privately are the Latin social dance basics (salsa-merengue basics, etc.)I would like to build some contacts if possible before I get out there to Beijing. So if you know of places or studios looking for instructors let me know. Ken let me know if you would like assistance, or of anyone else who would.
thanks
Michael Wogu

How much do you charge?

What are your rates and what styles do you teach?

rates and style

I teach Latin social dancing- Salsa(on 1), Merengue, Batchata, Cha cha,and Bolero. I also teach hip hop-popping to be exact, and accompany it with some afro-latin house freestyle. When I get some more videos on my website I'll let you know.
Here in the La area I charge $60 per private session, I still haven't found out what classes are priced at over there, I need to know this so that I can competitively price my classes. So what dances were you interested in learning?

My girlfriend and I would be really interested on your dance lessons, could you please contact us at tibabenfortlapalanca@gmail.com ?

Dancing salsa

Hi! I do not know Beijing very well, but I can tell you that our studio is very active when it comes to going out to different clubs (students and teachers go together almost every night), giving classes (6 days a week), arranging parties, and performing at different events. The teachers are often invited to teach at international festivals/congresses.

Salsa in Nanchang?

Hi. I see that you were also looking for Salsa in Nanchang, but back in September or so. Since it is now March, 2008, I wonder if you are still looking. I found a small dance studio which has just become familiar with Salsa but doesn't seem to know how to begin and market it.

I also keep meeting people who are also very interested in learning and dancing Salsa. I can teach the basic steps of several of the club latin dances such as, salsa, merengue, cha-cha, bachata, cumbia. However, I am finding it very difficult to try to develop any kind of dancing in Nanchang. It seems to be a tight 'bar-oriented' City and quite resistant to allowing new activities. Of course, it really takes some knowledgable and persistent people to make it happen. If you would like to join in this endeavor, please email me and let me know. As is true all over the world, once given the opportunity to demonstrate and try this style of dancing, it flies!!!

I think we might be able to talk to some hotels that currently have dance space occupied by open bars. They might be interested in trying this music. Or one can rent some hotel space for a party.

Let me know if you have found either actual Salsa dancing or available space.

Thanks.

Threat! Help me

Sandy (Ms. Zhou Yue Hong) 周悦红 小姐 13801783730

Sanofi-aventis China employee Sandy (Zhou Yue Hong) has made threaten call to me on May 24 2008, 22:27. That to threat me to leave shanghai in one week, otherwise, my face will be destroyed. I have reported it to the police at the same night I received the call (file number 2008 6723 7333 1738 8246).
I have just moved to Shanghai 3months ago. I know nobody hate me so much that want to destroy my face in my entire life. I have received Sandy’s sms and calls before to warn me to stay away NanJing Xi Lu area and to leave shanghai since she got to know that her husband had some business cooperation with me, and sometime her husband invite me for coffee or lunch.

I really think such disrespectful and despicable behavior person do not deserve to work for worldwide famous company as Sanofi-Aventis. I do not know if anybody get her mad, what crazy things she will do to harm and damage the others and will eventually damage the company reputation.
If anything happen to me during my time stay in Shanghai. First person you know who hurt me will be Sandy (Zhou Yue Hong).

Chinese dance

Hi . . one of the common dances I've seen people do outdoors in Beijing is like a slower version of the 'jive'. Does anyone know the name of this Chinese dance & where can I learn it? Thanks

teaching salsa in Beijing

Hi! I'm a Chinese Canadian girl, planning to move to Beijing. It looks like there is a pretty active salsa scene in Beijing, so i'm even more excited about the move. My ultimate goal is to be able to either teach latin dance classes or perform. I've been a latin dance instructor for about 2 years now in Toronto, mainly teaching salsa (with merengue, bachata, and a bit of cha cha on the side). Socially, I also dance Cuban bolero, cumbia, and salsa on 2 (mambo), which I could teach as well. I was a part of a salsa performance group in Guadalajara, Mexico, called Passo Fino. The group is based in Atlanta but I joined the Guadalajara chapter. We had regular performances in salsa clubs in Guadalajara.

my questions is, how hard is it to find a teaching position in beijing? Where should I look? Is it better to give private lessons? Do you know any schools that are hiring? If you have any info or just want to go out and dance, feel free to give me a shout! kathelei@gmail.com
