I was reading this article in the NY Times Magazine about Al Gore and it mentioned that there are going to be concerts around the world on (july 6?) to promote environmental awareness. It sounded like We Are The World on steroids.
There are going to be 24 hours of concerts in cities from NY to Sydney to pretty much everywhere. Originally they wanted t play right in front of the White House just to stick it to them, but some senator got pissed because "Global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people." Smart guy.
Anyway, I googled around to see if there would be something in China, and sure enough there is, in Shanghai. Problem is I can't seem to find out the venue or anyone playing. Some of the other ones have groups like U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Madonna, pretty much anyone you've ever heard of.
Is there any info or rumors going around about the Shanghai event? I'd be really interested in going.

Not well organized
So the world on the street is that Shanghai was a late addition, and they really want to do an event by
1. they don't have a venue yet
2. the only person booked is someone i've never heard of.
So they insist it'll happen, which means it'll probably something really crazy with michael jackson and Prince showing up at the last minute and selling out a huge stadium, or it will be Tone Loc and 25 guys who are too young to remember him.
It seems like given Chinese energy consumption and pollution it would be a top priority.

Those live concerts were a brilliant initiative for Al Gore, it's not an easy thing to gather the world for a common cause but it looks like he made it. I managed to get some concert tickets for Shangai and it was worth it.
