I know there are Chinese people everywhere here, but are there clubs where foreigners can work on their Chinese. I feel like even though there are so many Chinese people around, sometimes I have a hard time making friends with people. It has been much easier for me to simply hang out with foreigners, which is easy but lazy. Plus my Chinese will never improve...

Meeting/Practicing Chinese
You can do language exchanges at most universities or hire a student for 10-20 and hour pretty easily. I know people who have done this and because pretty good friends with their tutors this way.
The other way about it is showing up at basketball courts or places like that and just start playing. You can make friends pretty easily and try to meet up with people afterwards, or show up regularly at the same place. That will help a lot to break out of the laowei rut.
Talk da Talk Language Exchange
Every Friday night at 7:30, Talk da Talk hosts a free language exchange event in order to help people practice languages. For the first 45 minutes of the event, participants speak in only English. After a short break, participants speak only Chinese for the next 45 minutes. Every week there is a new topic to help start conversation, although most people usually end up talking about
something completely different by the end of the night. Free drinks are also available.
The exchange is located at the Talk da Talk clubhouse at 580 Xinhua Rd. For more information, you can contact Cynthia by e-mail at cynthia@talkdatalk.com.
We hope to see you soon!
