Work VISA

9 months into my contract my boss wants me to leave the job. I have been "reassured" that my VISA (which is good until Jan 2008) WON'T BE CANCELLED.

I really don't believe this.

How much does a WORK VISA run an employer- if I have to pay it back (or a pro-rated part of it)?

Visa repayment

I don't know the exact number, but I think a work visa costs an employer about 500 US give or take. However, I'm not really sure how they could ask you to pay for it until there is a clause in the contract or they are somehow holding a significant amount of your money. Probably your best bet is to be very amicable with them until you have all of your money and then get out of there. It would be a hassle for them to cancel it, so that seems unlikely, and I'm pretty sure they have no ground to keep some of your money without a cluase in the contract. If they try to keep a lot you may want to tell them that you will 'consult' with the provincial foreign affairs office for advise. don't threaten them or be combatice as they may stiffen their position, but make it clear that you will be finding out your rights from the government. they probably won't want to deal with that, although they may have friends, in which case you'd be screwed...

what province are you in?
