I know what I want, thanks

C, one of my Chinese friends comes to France and she runs into me

C: When I am in Paris I want to buy a red hat. I don't speak French. Can you help me?

Me: of course, but I think you would look better in blue shoes. I will help you buy blue shoes.

C: but I want a red hat!

Me: In France it is easier to find blue shoes than a red hat. I will help you buy blue shoes. It will take less time.

C: but I want a red hat!

Me: but I don't wear a hat. So you don't need a hat, but if red is important to you I will help you buy red shoes.

C: but I want a red hat!!

Me: why do you want a hat? It isn't raining. I will help you buy red shoes. If you want a red hat maybe you should go to Russia.  You can take a train.

C: No thank you.

Me (to my friends) : C came to visit me and I tried to help her but she thinks the world revolves around her. She doesn't know how to compromise. Nothing I did was good enough.

...Now, reverse the roles and you will see what life is like for me in China!

PLEASE, if I say I want something STOP TELLING ME HOW TO FIND A SUBSTITUTE!

If I want a substitue I'll ask for a substitute.

Huh?

I don't get this story. Why did you want a red hat?

No

I think his friend wanted a red hat. He wanted blue shoes. No?

I'm confused about the Paris part. Are you French Ramo?

oui

I'm talking about the elderly French's confusion and general distrust of the machines as reported by the AFP.
