Housing in Xi'an

I'm planning on moving to Xi'an in a month but I have no idea what the neighborhoods are like. Where are the best places to live in terms of getting around? What are the prices for apartments like out there?

They don't have a subway do they? Someone told me that Chengdu will have one soon which gave me hope that any city might (no offense to Chengdu)

I'm an American student living in Xi'an right now. I have a Chinese friend who was just accepted to the Au Pair Association, but before she can depart for America, she must have 200 hours of nanny experience with foreign children. Since I am studying abroad, attending classes and such, it is rare for me to meet foreign families in need of a nanny! However, my friend has asked for help, so I though maybe you could help hook her up with a foreign family in need of a nanny.
