I'm heading to Dalian for business next month and I was hoping somebody knows something interesting going on out there. Any events etc?

Beer Festival

Dalian has a big outdoor beer festival every year where a lot of international brewers come. It's not exactly micro-brew heaven, but it's good fun. It's at Xinghai Gongyuan I think, and usually in June (maybe July). You might want to look into that.

Russian Invasion

Dalian in the summer is great with the breezes coming off the ocean, and giant parks. But there sure are a lot of Russians that flock in. Once I was at a bus stop on one the biggest streets in the city and was shocked to be propositioned by a Russian prostitute at 2:30 in the afternoon.

Of course most of the Russians that come in are business types, often with there families. If you want to get a big Russian buffet there are few cities better able to accommodate you than Dalian in July or August!

There have been some horror stories about that guy I also heard a bit of a scammer. Anyway, Dalian has a pretty good community website and I met the owner recently, another American called Jim. (Seems Dalian is full of yanks & aussies these days) he runs www.DalianXpat.com and he's doing a decent enough job of it. Check it out if you need Dalian local info.
