China Expat

Festivals or Fairs etc

Are there any festivals or events around the country in May? I heard about 3 yue 3 for Huang Di's birthday on Thursday and that seemed pretty cool, but I couldn't make it down there. Are there any other festivals around? What do people do for labor day? There must be some events for spring?

 help?

Chengdu Festival

I came across this one a few weeks ago in Chengdu which should be interesting. It's the first annual China Chengdu International Intangible Culture Festival from May 23-June 10.

Not exactly sure what it is, but it's always fun to go to a festival in its first year to see how it works out.

Coffee festival

Here's a weird one I came across: the Guangzhou coffee festival May 12-14

September Gong Fu Festival

It's not too soon, but in September there will be a large gong fu (Kung Fu) festival in Henan, a few hours away from Shaolin Temple.

China Zhengzhou International Shaolin Wushu Festival is held every year. This year it will be September 20-24.

The three week festival finished today in Chengdu. Some of the main ventures might have proved to be a bit far and difficult for any non-speaking-Chinese visitor to the Sichuan captial.

The Chengdu Weekly Newspaper covered the events fairly well ...

This hardcopy government-funded English supplement is usually published each Sunday, and can be found inside the Chinese language "Chengdu Daily" newspaper. Cost for the whole paper is 0.5RMB
