Best Zhang Yimou movies

Of course film tastes are strictly opinion but here are some of my favorites:
Traveling Alone for Thousands of Miles (extremely good and under-rated recent film)
Raise the Red Lantern
To Live
Happy Times
Not One Less

He also has some more action type movies like Hero and The Curse of the Golden Scorpion. I haven't seen the former, although it got excellent reviews. The latter was beautiful, but the story was pretty weak.

I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!! but it's very sad

It id good but

It's as much a commentary on Japan as China. They really focus on the struggles of the Japanese father and son to find a way to connect as they do on anything Chinese. Obviously that does not mean it isn't worth it, but it's not a very Chinese movie all things considered.

Thousand of Miles

You have a point, but a lot of it is also about how different cultures can overcome the language barriers etc and connect in a meaningful way. Also, I think there is a lot of interesting stuff about the Yunnan area in it in terms of Chinese culture.
