I hear Chinese music all the time, in restaurants and stores etc, and some of it is really good, but I never know what I'm listening to. Can someone give me a little education about good Chinese music?

Theres some good stuff
Theres some good stuff around man. I like Wong Faye, and her "Random Thinking" CD is a bit of a classic, with a lot of the songs used in the film Chungking Express. Even the Cocteau Twins covered one of the tracks here, thats how mando-cool it is.
Heh heh california dreaming heh
Fidel
Zhou Zhuang Xiong
Zhou Zhuang Xiong is not exactly the newest guy on the Chinese pop scene, but his music is pretty good, especially Zai Wo Shen Bian (在我身边)
His really sappy stuff tends to be a bit much, but he's quite good.
Foreigners also tend to like S.H.E. as a bit of a guilty pleasure
Hei Bao are a pretty good
Hei Bao are a pretty good Chinese rock band - their "Don't Break My Heart" is old but still a bit of a classic - sung in Chinese and English. Hei Bao means "Black Panther" and their logo is that, so easy to spot in the CD racks. I also once bought a CD by Tang Dynasty because the cover looked cool, it was head-banging hard rock, not really my thing but if it's yours look out for them...
Andy Lau
The famed HK musician, actor and bowler is one of the most famous Asian musicians. Sadly his music is horrible. Save yourself the money. If you are thinking about buying something I advise you to listen to a few tracks first to make sure you want it.
