Sure,sure. The first men and women noticed their differences and felt – righteous. All due respect to Confucius, but if only those righteous civilization builders could have incorporated a little more Dao into their rulebooks. Something to incorporate a little more flow and flexibility into the system. The Second Law applies to society, which is why all that delightful rectitude and mandatory righteousness has diffused into the Chinese world of sexual politics.
When did we stop complementing each other’s yins and yangs and start softly killing each other? It’s not the when but the how on display at Between the Sexes, the latest exhibition at Paris-Beijing Photo Gallery. Established and establishing artists alike snap moments on the bleeding edge of sexual relationships where opposites play: boredom and hunger, playfulness and dominance, passion and contempt. Speaking of when,the pictures are honest enough to reveal that romance has always been a game. We probably just need a new rulebook.
The black and white photographs capture the vacant, inhuman concrete blocks, where a vulnerable yet armed woman hides in fear and pleasure from the one lingering on the opposite side of the wall.

Tension grows as the storyline of an adult woman’s daily life unfolds, where unknown secrets and intrusion of men are concealed within the cold vacant rooms.

Yet if a group of men were to talk the same about wives and girlfriends…well, expect a call from HR, and block some time the following week to write humble letters to prospective employers.
