Translated as “Black Panther”, Hei Bao are China’s premier rock band, formed in Beijing in 1987 by two guitarists, Li Tong & Guo Chuanlin. Their debut CD, released in 1991, is still China s best selling rock collection ever, featuring heavy metal workouts as well as the classic ballad “Don’t Break My Heart”, sung partially in English and long a karaoke favorite. Now on their fifth CD, the group have been widely inspirational to other Chinese musicians and continue to pack out concerts wherever they play, with their last CD, Hei Bao V, being released in 2004 and containing yet more part- English songs, “Don’t Come & Bother Me” being a huge hit in Japan where they also maintain a healthy and loyal following. Rock but with very definitely a melodic twist, neat hooks, catchy tunes as well as some good old-fashioned head banging make them a much loved group, breaking old traditions and satisfying the jeans and long haired China rebel brigade into the bargain.

Do the members of “Black Panther” have tattoos like old Ozzy Osborne from “Black Sabbath”?
Yeah, but not on their necks. That's only for scumbags.
